The First Crossroad...
You spend the next couple hours of the morning briskly jogging down the trade routes close to home trying to follow the tracks left behind by the thugs that burnt your home down... The trail goes cold when you reach a main road and you decide to follow it reaching the crossroad closest to home...
North road leads to Northern Shade-Wood, bandits and outlaws of course live there, but you're more likely to run into an orckin or wolf then anything. Some parts host large lumbering companies and on a plus side you know that a strange plant simply dubbed as "Goodberry Shrubs" grows in the further northern areas of these woods, it cures minor wounds and aids in the curing process of poisons.
West leads to the Trapper/Carpentry stapled town of Kregham (population 280)
Friendly folk you hail from that hamlet and know a couple people that could give you some aid in food and possibly a strong arm. Many advantages to the town as they have their own smith that spends a lot of his time refurbishing weapons, though you don't think 3 gold will be getting you a weapon bigger then the knife you have now. They also have a Priestess in the hamlet, but her skill are novice as she's never preformed a miracle past that of mending the wounds of the tavern keeper that always slices his finger tip off chopping potatoes every month... She'd also ask for a 'donation' for her services...
What shall you do?

I vote Carpentry. Best to get some help before running head first into a band of wolves and orckin :V
ReplyDeleteYou decide that in your present condition it would be better to head into town for some help. If you couldn't even handle some thugs that attacked you in your own home, how are you going to fare in your mostly bare-bones state against orckin and wolves in a less-familiar forest?
ReplyDeleteSay, I know a good tracker... wait a minute that would be me. Lets go to town and get you better equipped while asking around. If that drunk is there, we will start with him. Maybe coax him out back so so that if my knife slips, I mean if he doesn't talk (anymore)... where was I now? Oh, ya you get the supplies you need, I will track them and for a modest fee up on completion, we will take care of them all. - Kat'rin'dil
ReplyDeleteHEY Stranger! Welcome to my tavern??? wait a minute this isn't my tavern? Who took my tav...Oh, ya, I flew year a couple of days ago. That reminds me, better go chhecccck on my birds. Can't have them eating any of the locals can we ;-) Say if you need to rent some griffons mine go cheaper than the competition and come with me as a guide (hehe) You the fella looking for the group of thugs that burned your house down? I don't care much for that sensive drink but my new drinking buddy (turns around) Oh, ya that nice but scary elf fellow convinced him to leave. That elf is nice enough, but he gives me the chills. I wouldn't want to cross him. Let's see, I was making a point... Oh, ya, my griffons spotted a group like you was a mentioning past the turn off heading to the Shade-wood. Did I tell you I was an uber umber-hulk killer? They really like the good berries, I love killing me some umbers just as good as killing orcs. No offense intended if'n you have some of that blood, mind ya. Wait a minute, where ya go'win, let's sit here and have a drink and we can think about how to approach this problem with your house being burneded down. No, no, well it is OK, I need to check on my birds then we can go get that drink together...(turns around again) where did that guy go?
ReplyDelete- Ketch, Griffons for hire, Uber Umber-hulk assassin and champion mud swimmer.
Don't listen to Kat or Ketch, go home and rebuild. Be safe, use that 3 gold pieces to help rebuild your home. Kat is not that predictable and Ketch, well if you haven't noticed, he is not real quick on the draw. Only luck keeps him alive. Best to let the local authorities handle the thugs. If you are absolutely determined to get your revenge, hire Kat to track them down and deal with them, then he can tell you where to pick up the remains. While waiting you can get Ketch sobered up and he can fly you there to pick up what is left. I always say, better safe then sorry.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, money does not seem to be Kat'rin'dil's motivator. I know he keeps gems on him, but no one seems to know what motivates him he is not like most elven kind that is shown in his fondness of Dwarves... go figure. There are those rumors as well... but enough gossip.
ReplyDeleteI recognize that no men are beating down my door to court me. Being a female hunter gatherer does not give me the time for all the niceties of the domestic types. I will go to town. Some of these folk have purchased my herbs, potions, meats and hides so they know my character even if they don't know my gender. I will ask for adventurers to volunteer for a fair share of the take. With a reward of healing potions and herbal cantrips for the safe return of my "special" wine. I will make do with what I can get, but I need a bard with interrogation skills for my number one person of interest, "the drunk". I will need ranger or rogue with good tracking skills to get started ahead of the group and wait for us once the trail is found. I will need someone with better healing skills than my own such as a cleric or a paladin with good fighting skills as well. I will round off the group with anyone that has good fighting skills. The bard would be nice to take along for keeping the group together and in good spirits and optionally, I need someone with a reputation to steal away the wine before any battle starts and protect it. I will be giving up my shares except for what is need to fund this enterprise and the bottle of wine. If any of the thugs live I want the bard to interrogate them as well to find out who sold me out. (Though I have a pretty good idea who it was.) If anything is left of my 3 gold pieces, I will buy empty vials and what I can to defend myself in the form of first a weapon then any form of armor that does not restrict my movement in silence as I will have no time to cure hides on the way. I did not get where I am today by cowering in the corner when the going got tough, I sure as heck will not let these thugs get the best of me, even if it takes me years or I have to do it by myself or my name is not Lilith Van-Snek. I will not go home and rebuild until I have had my revenge. For those that go beyond I will give credit to my stores once I rebuild.
ReplyDeleteHead to town, better to take the time to come up with a plan and see what help can be found there rather than to charge head first into the forest. Perhaps there's someone there who is familiar with these bandits if noting else.
